Simple Yellow Cake


3 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 cup butter, softened

1 ½ cup sugar

½ cup canola oil

4 eggs

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1 ¼ cup buttermilk


  1. To medium bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside

  2. To a large bowl cream together the butter, sugar, and oil. Once well combined. Mix in the eggs, 1 at a time. Once all eggs are well combined mix in the vanilla extract

  3. Alternate adding ½ the dry ingredients and ½ the buttermilk to the wet ingredients until batter is combined and creamy. Do not over mix

  4. Divide batter between two 9” round pans that are greased and lined with parchment

  5. Bake at 350 F for 25-30 minutes, or until cake is golden and toothpick comes out clean. Allow cake to cool 10-15 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Let cake cool completely before icing
