Indian Chai


4 cloves

2 green cardamom

2 whole black peppercorns

1 inch piece cinnamon

¼ tsp grated ginger

1 cup water

3 tsp loose black tea leaves

1 cup milk

2 tsp sugar, or to taste


  1. Place cloves, cardamom, and peppercorns in a Ziplock. Use the end of a wooden spoon or heavy pot to smash spices.

  2. Add water to pot and toss in smashed spices, cinnamon, and grated ginger. Bring to boil

  3. Once boiling, add tea leaves and allow it to boil 2-3 minutes

  4. The longer you let it boil, the stronger the tea. Once tea is at desired darkness, add milk and let simmer additional minute

  5. Strain tea into cups and enjoy!
