Fried Green Tomatoes


¾ cup all purpose flour

¼ cup cornmeal

1 tsp salt, or to taste

½ tsp black pepper

¾ cup milk

4-5 medium green tomatoes


  1. In a medium bowl, add flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper. Give everything a good whisk

  2. Pour in milk and mix well. Check for consistency. Batter should not be runny but should also not be too thick. Add tsp amounts of milk if required to achieve desired consistency

  3. Slice green tomatoes into about ¼ in thick slices, or as desired

  4. Heat roughly 1 in. oil in pan. Drop a tiny bit of batter into oil. If it sizzles right away oil is hot enough

  5. Dip each slice into the batter until well coated. Shake off the excess and carefully drop into hot oil

  6. Cook 2-3 minutes on both sides, or until it is golden and crispy. Lay on paper towel when finish to drain excess oil

  7. Enjoy while hot!
